Welcome to
Super Conference 2008
Each Super Conference is planned with an overall theme in mind, and for this year, Super Conference
organizers have used the butterfly image on the program cover to symbolize the overall framework of
transformation. This year Super Conference looks at how we can transform ourselves and
our institutions so that we can thrive as this era of rapid change continues. For library
institutions, and for us as library workers, transforming ourselves can be about some new 3 R's:
reinvention, regeneration, and rejuvenation, themes which a variety of our conference plenaries and
workshop sessions will be exploring.
OLA is also being transformed as Super Conference 2008 is Larry Moore's last Super Conference as
OLA's Executive Director. At the fête for Larry Moore on Friday evening, we will be looking
back at the Larry Moore era of OLA and honouring Larry for his passion, dedication, and leadership.
This is a not-to-be missed event.
Another part of OLA's transformation this year is the move to a greener conference
with some of our efforts being aimed at reducing the amount of paper distributed. Consequently, the
daily conference newsletter will no longer be printed. As well, we are encouraging presenters to
forego print handouts and post their material on the OLA Web site instead. You will also notice a
new session evaluation format that uses less paper.
I have attended this conference for many years, and each year I look forward to engaging in
stimulating professional learning and to networking with old and new library colleagues. I look
forward to a transformative educational and networking experience this year, and I hope to talk with
many of you in person.
