featuring the authors in the 2007 Forest of Reading™
The first-ever Forest of Reading™ Book Launch will bring together young people from
kindergarten to grade 12 to meet the authors of the 2007 reading programs:
- Blue Spruce K-2
- Silver Birch 3-6
- Red Maple 7-8
- White Pine High school
Seventy authors are nominated and seventy authors have been invited. The event will be hosted by
TVOntario and Canadian astronaut Steve MacLean has been invited to be the celebrity guest. Watch
this Web site for updates on who is coming as MacLean and the authors RSVP. There will be
autographing and prizes.
Adults do not get to see most ceremonies and have no idea just how intense and exciting these
encounters between youth and authors can be. Here is your chance to be a fly on the wall and
observe our young people celebrate Canadian authors, reading and what it means to be a star!

serves as program director for the Leadership Institute at Syracuse University and teaches at the
University's Whitman School of Management. He is an advisor/consultant for Student Agencies at
Cornell University and serves as Vice-President for Polaris Library Systems. Over the past three
years, over 3,000 people representing over 300 organizations have attended his leadership, marketing
and customer service workshops.

EVERY CHILD READY TO READ
Helen Kelly, Helen Benoit, Daria Sharanewych and Sharon Yates
The Public Library Association of the American Library Association has created the Every Child
Ready To Read initiative to transform your space planning, training, and storytimes. Administrators
and managers will see the latest early literacy research, how it impacts library spaces and how it
positions the public library as an essential community partner in early literacy. Here is a
practical, hands-on toolkit for children's staff implementing the Every Child Ready To Read
elements in weekly storytime sessions.
This session demonstrates:
- How to position the library in light of the latest early literacy research.
- How to position the library as an essential community early literacy partner.
- How to adapt programs and services to meet community needs using an approach rooted in this
great initiative.
- How to manage your Every Child Ready To Read project — funding, marketing,
training and assessment.

CREATING DIGITAL CONTENT
Find out how to create digital collections from your institution's material. This hands-on
demonstration shows you how to generate digital content using the tools offered by OurOntario.ca, a
component of Knowledge Ontario.
OurOntario.ca is a one-place-to-look search and discovery portal for digital content and collections
about and from Ontario. One of the priorities of the OurOntario.ca project is to assist in the
creation of sustainable digital content by providing Ontarians with freeware Web-based tools to
digitize and manage collections. Learn how to create digital content that will be available via
SRU (Search/Retrieve via URL) searches, RSS feeds of new content, Google maps of search results,
etc. Create ways for the public to add their own stories to your digital images. Construct searches
that will draw the content of your site together with related digital images held by other
institutions.
Focus on how to digitize or scan materials to appropriate formats. What type of information needs to
be captured so that your digital collections can be made available in a variety of contexts for
discovery by end-users?
Limit: 18 registrants per session.

of communications skills.
The Benefits
In a relaxed, humorous, and non-embarrassing setting, professional communications coach Goldie
Newman will help you try out some new ways to speak more assertively, minimize misunderstandings,
and improve your listening skills. You'll learn how to improve your insight into specific
problems, and develop greater self confidence. Plus you'll have the chance to practice being coach,
"coachee", and the impartial observer. This is a fast moving, interactive full-day session that
will provide you with guided feedback and solid tips that you can put into use right away.
