WHAT IS A POSTER SESSION?
Poster sessions are an effective forum for the exchange of information among
conference delegates and a means to communicate ideas, research, and
programs.
Poster sessions can be on a wide variety of topics, such as:
• a description of an innovative library program
• an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort
• a display of a successful event, activity, or production
• a marketing campaign
• the results of a research project
Poster session participants create displays demonstrating their projects with eye-catching materials
such as pictures, graphs, diagrams and narrative text on 4' x 8' boards. In the assigned time
periods (45 minutes duration), participants informally discuss their presentations with conference
attendees.
SUBMISSIONS PROCESS:
Presenters do this by filling in and submitting
the submission
form on the OLA Web site. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by January 5, 2007. Anyone
can submit a submission to present a Poster Session at OLA as long as it falls within the criteria
mentioned above, however not all submissions will be accepted. Submissions must include a description
or abstract that will clearly describe the purpose and structure of the information to be displayed.
Only non-commercial entries allowed.
Poster sessions will be presented on February 1st and 2nd. Successful applicants will be
notified of their assigned date and time when they receive their acceptance letters. The presenter
must attend the conference to present the poster session at the assigned date and time.
RECOGNITION
You, your project and your colleagues will be included in the Super Conference 2007 Official
Program. Extra copies of the program will be available for your portfolio.
GUIDELINES FOR POSTER SESSION PRESENTATIONS
Each poster presentation lasts 45 minutes starting at 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm on February 1st
and 12:00 pm on February 2nd. During the presentation time, the presenter must be available at the
display to answer questions and to informally discuss the contents of the project being shown.
The poster display should include a statement of the need/problem, objectives of the research or
project, the methodology used to implement the project or program, the major findings or outcomes
and their significance, and conclusions.
You should provide a pleasing visual display of photographs, posters, charts, etc. with large
lettering to attract attention as delegates walk by the poster session area.
If your poster session includes electrical equipment, you must supply alternatives such as
batteries. There is no Internet connection available in the poster session area.
The poster board surface is four feet high by eight feet wide. The background colour is gray. You
may bring paper or cloth to cover the background, if you want a specific colour. Lettering should
be simple, bold, and easily legible from a distance of four feet. Velcro is the best method to
attach your materials but thumbtacks also work.
A six-foot long table is provided in addition to your poster session board. You may place
artifacts, products, handouts and other supportive material on the table for display or distribution
to interested people. You may also want to provide a sign-up sheet to record the names and addresses
of attendees who might wish more information, reprints, etc.
There are no storage facilities available at the Poster session site. All materials to be displayed
should be prepared before you arrive. Supplies will not be available at the conference. There is
no access to the Exhibit Hall until the doors are open to all delegates the morning of the sessions.
You will not be able to set up your poster until 11:45 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. The Poster boards will be
assigned by the Coordinator, any posters set up ahead of this time may be removed by the
Coordinator.
