CHARMAINE CROOKS
CANADIAN OLYMPIAN AND AMBASSADOR

Five-time Olympian and Olympic Silver Medallist, Charmaine Crooks represented Canada for close to 20 years in athletics. As the first Canadian woman to run 800 meters in under two minutes, she has won gold medals at the Pan American, Commonwealth, World Cup and World Student Games. She also had the honour of being named Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.

An elected Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) (since 1996- re-elected 2000-2004), she continues to serve on several IOC Commissions. As a founding member of the IOC Ethics Commission, she contributed to developing the Code of Ethics for the IOC, and was a member of the IOC 2000 Reform Commission. She is currently on the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee. Charmaine has been elected to the Canadian Olympic Committee executive Board.

Charmaine is known as a television personality and has worked with CBC, TSN, CTV, Fox Sportsnet and European TV. She will also be a part of a national series of vignettes called Trailblazers for Global TV along with 10 other Canadian women from all walks of life.
