MARCUS BORNFREUND

Protection, Innovation
and the Culture


Marcus Bornfreund is the Executive Director of Creative Commons Canada (creativecommons.ca): an organization dedicated to growing a progressive network of Canadian's passionate about the value of copyright alternatives for the advancement of civil society and culture. He is an adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, the Manager of the University of Ottawa's Law & Technology Program and an Associate of the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC). Professor Bornfreund sits as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the CIPPIC internal advisory board.

Professor Bornfreund is the founder of The Law-Share Network (law- share.net): an on-line platform for law students, lawyers and other legal professionals to search, download and collaborate on law- related data products; and co-founder of JurisPedia (jurispedia.org): an encyclopaedic project of academic initiative devoted to worldwide law, legal and political sciences. As a result of his continued contributions and leadership, he has become an influential figure in both the Canadian open source and open access communities. His lecture will discuss the importance of a balanced approach to copyright with respect to Canadian culture and creativity.
