A mentor awaits...

Are you a library science student or a new member seeking a position in a library or information centre in Ontario? Are you a mid-career librarian looking for advice on the best way to move up or just looking for a new perspective to make your job more fulfilling?

If you answered yes, the OLA's Super Conference mentoring program gives you the opportunity to meet other members who are interested and sympathetic to your needs.

MAKE THE MEETING MEANINGFUL

Be willing to play an active role. You will get out of it what you put into it. Knowing what you want and being able to articulate this up front to a mentor will help to ensure that your expectations are in line with theirs. A frank discussion at the outset regarding the time commitment possible will ensure that you and your mentor do not get caught out.

Be political. Your mentor is a person with position and experience. Keep aware. Listen. Do not be so focused on your own interests that you do not listen to what is being said. This is a great opportunity but can be lost both for you and them.
