Comments from participating students:
“Our meetings were fun-filled and we talked about different reading styles, reading speeds, and we discussed what makes a book interesting. We took a look at different characters in the different books and tried to relate them to ourselves, which make reading the books even more interesting.”
“The White Pine Book Club has been a great experience for me. I read books that I probably would not have read if I were picking books on my own. I’ve read more books in six weeks than I usually would have in a year. It was a fun experience, especially the part that we got together to talk about the books. I think other students will enjoy this program for next year. When I finished the last book I read, I kept thinking that there is another book I needed to read. It will probably be a new habit of having a book with me from now on. When my friends saw me reading these books, they wanted me to read the books they have read and enjoyed. I have a big list of books that I want to read over the summer. In general, I enjoyed this experience and it has taught me a great lesson, which is to have books with me all the time. Books are like movies except with more details.”
“What I like about this program, that is a free choice in reading. This program also helped me improve my English skills and vocabulary, but most thing I really enjoyed is that on our last day we went to Toronto to the symposium to meet the authors who wrote the books. In this program I finished seven books. I bought two, which were signed by the authors. I really enjoyed to be in this program, and I really recommend it to my friends who like to read.”
