Here’s how!

 2.   Gather and Document Evidence

        Collaborative Unit Design

What is it?

What does it look like?

This is a ‘how to” template for designing research units, beginning with the expectations from both Information Studies and the subject curriculum, and including assessment and evaluation strategies, forming the culminating task, outlining the four stages of research and listing resources.

Planning Research Units

A. Subject:__________________________

Grade level, Course Code and Unit Title:
    _________________________________

B. Subject/Grade             Information Studies
     Expectations               Expectations

     Overall                        Overall

      Specific                     Specific

C. Assessment and Evaluation:

Determine what will count as evidence
      of learning

Create a variety of assessment and
      evaluation strategies

     (rubrics, conferencing, etc.)

Establish criteria and levels linked to
     expectations

Measure both the process and the product

     Set clear standards throughout

What does it tell me?

  • Details current research units
  • Indicates expectations from subject curriculum and Information Studies
  • Demonstrates role of teacher-librarian in the assessment and evaluation of unit
  • Shows that students are using and becoming familiar with the 4 stages of research
