Introduction
Pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV and you will find numerous examples of people needing help -- a tsunami ravishes the countries of South East Asia; an earthquake strikes Iran; Hurricane Katrina or Rita blows across the southern United States. People are left homeless and struggling to find the necessities of life.
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child:
- All children have a right to live. Governments should ensure that children survive and develop healthily. (Article 6)
- Children have the right to good quality health care, to clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment, so that they will stay healthy. Rich countries should help poorer countries achieve this. (Article 24)
- Children have a right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and mental needs. Governments should help families who cannot afford to provide this.
(Article 27)
