Festival Committee

Roles and Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEE

  • To work as a team to create an exciting and fun program of events for the Forest of Reading® readers on May 13th and 14th, 2009 at Harbourfront.
  • Your role begins in early October with contacting committee members to see if their authors are interested in doing a session at the Festival in addition to their role in their programs celebration.  If the author is, then then you will be in touch directly with the author.
  • As a member of the Festival Committee you are an ambassador for the Forest of Reading®.  You will be a part of motivating school and public libraries to get involved and excited about the Forest programs.  This is especially important as the reading is 100% voluntary and not part of any curriculum.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBIILITIES

  • Attend a monthly teleconference meeting from October to May (sometimes bi-monthly) – with more frequent meetings closer to the Forest of Reading® Festival time for the purpose of planning and carrying out the Festival.
  • Attend at least one face-to-face meeting per year, if at all possible.  Some transportation help if available for this form of meeting through the OLA.
  • Must be in attendance at the Festival on May 13th & 14th, 2009 from 8am-3pm. If bringing students, must be available to help so will need assistance with students.
  • Work with the OLA Liaison for the Festival
  • Generate a number of ideas from entertainment to author run sessions
  • Take the idea to completion with arranging the logistics
  • Be in charge of one to three of the Festival Activities to make sure the speaker/authors are arriving at the correct time, know all details as well as making sure they run smoothly on site.  This may involve some gathering of materials before the Festival, set-up & take-down with volunteers and possibly helping the author with their program write up.
  • Find out the needs of the activity.
Assist with Autographing at the Festival.
