1. Writing is not something I planned to do.
Writing is something I NEEDed to do.
If I don't say what I need to say,
no one will say it for me.
2. I love to garden - even just to pull weeds.
It gives me time to think, calms and rejuvenates me.
I love to read in the garden when the apple blossoms and lilacs are in bloom.
3. I love thunder storms.
I love to sit in a dark room with the windows open
and just listen to the rain.
4. I like sushi, liver, and a few other things that make the rest
of my family move away from the table while I eat. (Yes they do this
esp. with liver).
5. I’m dyslexic and disliked reading as a child because I couldn’t put the words together to really make sense of them. I once only read the book flap of a book to do a book report. I didn't start to really figure things out until about grade four. Before that I had my friends or siblings read things for me and I memorized.
It wasn't until about grade nine that I found books I really loved enough to work my way through a book without being forced to for school and those weren't the ones assigned by the teachers.
6. As a young-adult, one of my best friends killed himself because he was gay and his parents would never accept that. The character of Alex in In the Garage was based on that young man.7. Sometimes I know things before they happen.
Once when I was about six my mother looked at me and said,
"I wonder when your father is getting home."
I told her "In six minutes."
He pulled into the driveway exactly six minutes later.
Another time I was in a store and I told the mother of a child to keep her near.
The mother didn't listen and her child was hit by a car in the parking lot and broke her arm.
I can't do this whenever I want to though - It would be nice to know lottery numbers before they’re picked. But sometimes I just feel things. Sometimes it totally freaks me out.
8. Of all the character's I've written so far, personality wise, I'm most like BJ from
In the Garage. I use humour a lot to hide my real feelings. I can also get really snarky.
These things run in my family so beware if you ever attend a function with all seven of us kids.
We must have drove our parents nuts. Of course our sense of humour comes from them.
9. I’m very quiet in a group of people. I prefer to listen and take everything in, rather than be the center of attention.
10. I dislike being around people who try too hard to be like everyone else. I think, in general, they're fake. It's okay to like the same things as someone but be yourself and let people like you for who you really are.
