Biography of Nicola I. Campbell

Nicola Campbell is of Interior Salish and Métis ancestry and grew up in BC’s Nicola Valley. She currently lives with her baby and partner in North Vancouver.
Her second book titled, Shin-chi’s Canoe was released in fall 2008 by Groundwood Books. The illustrations were a finalist for a 2008 Governor Generals award. Shin-chi’s Canoe is currently a finalist for the 2009 TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award and the 2009 Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award.
Her first free-verse children’s book titled, Shi-shi-etko, was published in September 2005 by Groundwood Books. Shi-shi-etko was a finalist for the 2006 Ruth Schwartz Children’s Book Award, the 2006 TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award and the 2006 Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award and was the co-winner of the 2006 Aboriginal Children’s Book of the Year Award.
Nicola is currently completing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. She writes adult and children’s short fiction, poetry, screen plays and is working on her first novella.
