The Strongest Man in the World: Louis Cyr
Written by Nicholas Debon

Nicolas Debon was born in 1968 in France. He studied visual arts at the “Ecole nationale des beaux-arts” in Nancy. He started making a living with small jobs in the management of artistic events. In 1993, he moved to Toronto, where he first intended to remain for a couple of months, and evantually remained for ten years... Among other employments, he worked as a draughtsman for a stained glass company.

In the meantime, he took up evening classes taught by Mark Thurman, a Canadian illustrator who made him discover a creative universe completely new to him. His first illustrations were published in 1999. They have since been shortlisted twice for the Governor General Literary Awards. Nicolas Debon also is the author and illustrator of three picture books, all first published in Canada. His latest story, “The Strongest Man in the World”, was granted the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in 2007, a prestigious children's literature’s award. Now living near Paris, in France, Nicolas Debon shares his time between illustration and comic strips both for the French and North American readers.

Whenever he is not riveted to his drawing table (that is to say not so often), Nicolas enjoys playing music with friends (he picks the guitar, accordion and mandolin), and all the sports which take place in the great outdoors: hiking, cycling and running.
