Evelyn Daigle

In The World of Penguins, critically acclaimed biologist and wildlife educator Evelyne Daigle, brings readers an in-depth view into the fascinating environment of these exquisite birds. The riveting text coupled with detailed illustrations by well-known, wildlife illustrator Daniel Grenier, will capture readers everywhere as they take “flight” into the land and underwater world of penguins.

After observing penguins in captivity for almost twelve years, Evelyne Daigle was given an opportunity to study them more closely through a joint project of Students on Ice and the Biodôme de Montréal. Aboard an icebreaker, in the company of both scientists and students, the author gathered written and visual information on penguins and the fascinating world in which they live. Inspiration was plentiful. By adding to the existing knowledge base, this expedition to the end of the world will benefit the Biodôme team and visitors alike. Evelyne Daigle lives in Quebec, where she has been a biologist and scientific interpreter at the Biodôme de Montréal since 1992.

Genevieve Wright

After studying linguistics at the University of Ottawa, Genevieve began translating (written word) and interpreting (spoken word) in English and French for the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa in 1975.

She left her home in Ottawa and moved to the Rockies in 1987, settling in Canmore, Alberta. In 1989, her daughter was born and Genevieve started her most important job, that of a mother. Her son was born in 1992. She has continued to work translating documents on all kinds of subjects, and as an interpreter, traveling to conferences to help people to understand one another in Canada’s two official languages.

Apart from translating Evelyne Daigle’s two books As Long As There Are Whales and The World of Penguins from French into English, learning more about the world and spending time with her children, her miniature Schnauzer, Louis, and her friends have brought her the most joy in life.

PERSONAL COMMENTS ABOUT ‘AS LONG AS THERE ARE WHALES’
Genevieve has always loved the ocean and everything about it. So, she welcomed the opportunity to translate Evelyne Daigle’s book from French into English. The author’s concern for the whales living in the St. Lawrence, and everywhere else on the planet, spoke to the passion Genevieve has about the need to tread softly on this Earth and to live with care and love.
Daniel Grenier’s illustrations help the words on every page to come to life and inspire wonder in the reader.

Translators have a great job because they get to learn something new every single day that they work. As Long As There Are Whales is full of great information.

Of all the projects Genevieve has worked on, As Long As There Are Whales has been the most satisfying, mainly because it is a book for children.
