Hello Silver Birch Readers!
The Royal Woods is my first book for kids. I hope you like it. I’ve written lots of other things – screenplays, short stories, magazine articles, and right now I’m working on a book for adults – but The Royal Woods was by far the most fun I’ve ever had writing anything. Partly that’s because I wrote it for my daughter M J who was eight years old at the time. Not only did I write it for her, she also helped me with it. As soon I’d finish a chapter, I’d read it to her and she’d tell me what she liked and didn’t like, and even give me suggestions about what might happen next. Not that I always took her advice. If I had, the story would have ended happily after only about two pages.
I live in downtown Toronto with my wife and two kids. I teach English at a nearby high school, and whenever I get the chance, I sneak off to a small dark corner of the basement and write. Since I’m not writing a book for anyone in the house right now, there’s no one to read it to except for the cat. So far, he hasn’t been very helpful with advice.
