I'm a writer and artist who has been living in Montreal, Quebec, for the past nine years. Prior to this, I've lived in the United States, Malaysia, Singapore and Spain. I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.
Living in other countries, and traveling lots among different cultures, has been important to my creative work. This remains very much true for me today.
I began writing for children not long after my first child was born, at the same time as my interest was drawn to the Canadian North. So far, my writing for children is about pre-contact and early contact northern Canada. Opposite viewpoints, predator and prey, odd partnerships, cleverness and bravery in the face of great difficulties are some of the topics I explore. These themes fascinate me. And they also help me think about many of the current issues that are facing us all today--from living in a multicultural society to considering our effect on the environment.
