The story of Ryan and Jimmy begins in a Grade 1 classroom in Kemptville, Ontario, where Ryan Hreljac learns from his teacher that people all over the world die each year because of a lack of clean drinking water. Though only six years old, Ryan decides that he needs to raise enough money to build a well to give people fresh drinking water. On the other side of the world in Uganda, the life of young Jimmy Akana is transformed by the building of a well in his village. Unfortunately for Jimmy, fresh water is not the only danger that he faces growing up in the middle of the African Continent. The two boys become pen pals. Like Ryan's foundation, which has raised over $1,000,000 in support of people in Africa who need clean water, the relationship between the two boys has grown and changed both lives forever.
