David A. Poulsen
Author of: The Vampire's Visit
Place of birth: Alberta
Place of residence: Alberta

David Poulsen has been a rodeo competitor and rodeo clown, a rock singer, a high school football coach, a stage and film actor, a television commentator and, most of allÉa writer. While David can remember filling scribblers and notebooks with his stories ("not very good ones") as far back as seven years old, his career began in earnest quite a few years later--in 1984--when his short story The Welcomin' won the Alberta Culture Short Story Writing Competition. Since that time he has written more than 19 books. David acknowledges that most of his books are either for or about kids. Several are both. "People say I never stopped being a kid myself and I guess that's true."

2004 saw the publication of his popular Young Adult novel Last Sam's Cage--nominated for Children's Choice Book Awards in Saskatchewan (the Snow Willow) and Manitoba (the MYRCA). 2006 marked the appearance of David's best-selling series The Salt and Pepper Chronicles. Two titles in the series appeared that year—The Vampire's Visit and The Hunk Machine with two more arriving in 2007—No Time Like the Past and The Book of Vampire. (Book 5 in the Chronicles—The Prisoners and the Paintings will be published by Key Porter Books in the spring of 2008).

Dave is one of Canada's most sought after guest authors in schools and his travels take him to over 100 schools each year all across Canada. In 2005 David was awarded a Centennial Medal by his home province for his "contributions to Alberta and Albertans."
