Debby Waldman loves to read. When she was little, she used to read all the time, even when she wasn't supposed to. She read while walking to school, taking baths, and under the covers at night. She even read when she was supposed to be practising her violin.
She loved to read books so much that she decided it would be fun to write them. But she wasn't actually sure you could earn a living writing books, and as it turned out, she was right. Some writers earn a living writing books, but most do other kinds of writing as well.
A journalist, book reviewer, and humorist, Debby Waldman calls herself a jack-of-all trades writer. Her articles have been published in Chatelaine, the National Post, the Globe and Mail, People, Sports Illustrated, Parents, American Baby, and many other publications. She writes a family/humour column that appears in the Edmonton Journal every other week.
Debby became a Canadian citizen in 2005. The day before she took her oath of citizenship, she and her daughter went to Churchill Square in Edmonton, where they live, to see Queen Elizabeth. The Queen was doing a walkabout. Debby's daughter, Elizabeth, got to meet the Queen and present her with flowers. It was a very exciting day for Debby and Elizabeth (and perhaps for the Queen as well).
Debby is married to David Wishart, who is a professor in biological sciences and computing science at the University of Alberta. She also has a son, Noah, who was born in 1997. She loves baking, cooking, eating, cycling, walking, reading, watching movies, writing, and spending time with her family, not necessarily in that order.
