Linda Bailey
Author of: Stanley's Wild Ride
Place of birth: Winnipeg, Manitoba
Place of residence: Vancouver, British Columbia

Linda Bailey has written more than twenty books for children. She has written mystery novels (the Stevie Diamond mystery series) and time-travel adventures (the Good Times Travel Agency series). Most recently, she has been writing picture books about a dog named Stanley. The Stanley books are inspired by Linda's dog, Sophie -- an 8-year-old golden retriever. Whenever Linda needs a new idea, she just starts watching her dog!

Linda was born and grew up in Winnipeg. As a child, she loved to read and play "pretend" games. She was a reader and a daydreamer and so shy that she hardly ever spoke up in school. When she grew up, she left Winnipeg in search of faraway places and adventure. She traveled the world and lived for a while in England and in Australia. When she returned to Canada, she settled in Vancouver, British Columbia. She lives there now, in a little red house not far from the Pacific Ocean.

Linda writes full-time now, but before she was a writer, she was a college teacher, an editor, a travel agent and an onion-picker. She has two grown daughters named Lia and Tess, a cat named Daphne -- and of course, a dog named Sophie.

Bill Slavin was born February 12, 1959 in Belleville, Ontario, the seventh of eight children. He illustrated his first book, The Adventures of Zok the Caveman, when he was seven. It was published in an edition of one. He has been writing and illustrating ever since. Today he is living in the village of Millbrook with his wife, Esperança Melo, who is also an artist and the co-illustrator of Drumheller Dinosaur Dance.

They are both members of a local art gallery collective, The Millbrook Gallery, which, although presently without a permanent home, still shows as a group on a regular basis. They have lived and worked in this community since 1990.
