We have around
30 members all together. About 8 - 10 who sit at meetings, the rest are "chequebook".
We have been
trying to come up with ways to thank people for their $5.00 and one way is
to let them come to our giant book sale on the evening before. A little
perk.

Currently we
have only 5 paid up members - basically the executive. We have another 20
'members' who come out to help when needed but we don't like to press for $$

We have about 20
members who pay but rarely attend any functions. This is partly due to age,
illness or they are involved with other community activities.
On our
application form we ask that new members check off what areas are of
interest to them. Some volunteer for specified functions and others do not.
Our biggest
challenge is finding active members to be on the Executive Council.
The membership
fee helps to cover some operating expenses.

At our AGM we
get $1.00 from each person renewing their membership. Usually 8 to 10
people. At one time it was $5 but a decision was made to lower that amount
in the hopes of keeping membership. We remain steady at 8 to 10 fairly
active members and about 10 or so who are available for special events. Hard
to keep people interested. Meetings are every three months and we usually
only have about 3 or 4 attend. The AGM I really push for attendance and even
the Library Board attends.

Yyes we do have
a number of "chequebook" members (I do not have a percentage breakdown but
it is more than 50%). There are also a few members who pay more than their
membership fee.
At one time the
Library charged a membership fee which was waived for Friends. However the
Library no longer has such a fee so we do not have any incentive for
becoming a Friend other than supporting the brary. Not an absolutely true
statement as we do have a couple of events during the year for the
members.
The Westmount
Library is free to residents, students who attend Westmount schools, and
people who work in Westmount businesses. For all others there is a fee and
it is not reduced for Friends who are non residents. However we do have a
few non residents who belong to the Friends.
Once upon a
time we allowed members advance entry to our book sale as an incentive to
join. A result of this was that booksellers became Friends. However we
discontinued this practice several years ago.

Of the 60
members, about 35 are volunteers in the Book Store or on the Board of the
Friends.
The others just
support the Friends.

The majority of
the paid members take part in our Speakers' Series and attend the book
sales. Since having initiated an early admission to our book sales if you
have membership, memberships have increased as have book sale proceeds. Canmore Friends
group has 130 members, in a community of approximately 12 000. Marilyn Otwein |

Nous avons

votre expression.

We have over 130
members and basically only our board of ten members and an occasional
volunteer comes to our meetings. It is unrealistic to expect many
additional members to attend our meetings. Many people join the Friends
for the benefits we give them:
-
the first day at
the Fall Book Sale is for members only and they receive 10% off purchases.
-
10% off any of
our other sales, plus 10% off at a local nursery and book store.
It is also
another monetary way to support us and the library

We have approximately 75 paid members. Unfortunately only about ¼ of them
will volunteer and most won’t attend a meeting. My main volunteers for our 3
booksales and other functions were once paid up members. I don’t push them
for fees as I would rather not lose them as volunteers. We did receive a
letter from a woman in our community asking why she should have to pay to
volunteer . I believe that our mother FVRL requires fees. I tell people when
they ask that if they want the privilege of receiving copies of the minutes,
etc (by e-mail) they would have to be paid up members.

The following is with respect to the Friends of the Kingston Frontenac
Public Library which has 17 branches.
As far as I know there has never been a Corporate Membership.
It is our policy to keep the Membership low. We are a Charitable
organization who can issue tax receipts and our more affluent members make
donations along with their memberships. Members receive a bi and sometimes
tri-annual Newsletter and we also have the back page of the Library's
magazine.

events.

I must admit that we are somewhat negligent in asking for the membership
renewals but we are working on that. We have approximately 35 members at the
moment and a few other people who are not members but who come out to help
with book sales.

Family membership - $15.00 (for 4 persons at the same address)
Supporting membership - $25.00
Lifetime Membership - $100.00 (this is a one-time fee) |
We currently have 265 members. 48 of these are Life Members.
Our Annual General Meeting was attended by 10 Board Members, 3 Library
personnel, and 20 General Members. These figures remain pretty well the same
from year to year.
Our Board meets about 4 times annually, and is well attended by those
elected to the Board.

Family membership $20 |
The membership allows the
holder to attend the Friends Only Friday evening Book Sale prior to the semi
-annual book sales which we hold.
At the present time there are 16 family memberships and 22 single members.
It is very difficult to attract members to the annual general meeting. But
there about 20 volunteers who help organize and man the two book sales and
the continuing book cart sales which are located beside the check out at the
circulation desk at the main branch.

As of now, we have 112 members
who have paid 2009 dues, and several more who have not yet paid. Our board
of ten members are usually the only ones at monthly meetings. The Annual
General Meeting attracts a few people only. Many volunteers help with book
sales (mostly students) and they are usually not members.
