There is a benevolent, voluntary and charitable association called the
Friends of the Greater Sudbury Public Library, in French Les
Amis de la Bibliothèque publique de Grand Sudbury, herein called
The Friends. The business of the Friends shall be carried out without purpose
of gain for its members. Any profits or other accretions to The Friends
shall be used only to promote its aims and objectives.
We are guided by assumptions, as attached.
Aims and Objectives of The Friends
Methods of Action
The Friends shall seek to achieve its aim by raising funds. obtaining materials needed by the library and by volunteering as requested.
Revenues and materials provided by Friends will be in addition to regular operating budget, for the extension and improvement of services and resources of the Sudbury Public Library
The Friends may undertake all manner of lawful activities to raise funds or to obtain materials in support of the Sudbury Public Library. It can also undertake activities that afford the membership opportunities to broaden their knowledge in the context of of library activities, including networking with Friends of Libraries groups nation-wide..
The Friends official language shall be English and French.
Governance and Organizational Structure of The Friends
An Executive Committee consisting of Chair, Vice-Chair, Membership Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected on an annual basis to oversee the functions of The Friends. Annual fall general meeting will include elections.
The executive will be assisted by a Library Liaison, a member of the library staff appointed to meet with and facilitate activities of The Friends.
The Library Board will appoint one member from will liaise with the Friends.
From time to time committees will be struck to organize particular projects. Particular library branches can have a committee of Friends. Membership of any committee is open to any member of the association.
Use of funds
The Friends net revenues, materials or the proceeds or interest thereon may be disbursed, at the entire discretion of the Executive Committee, to the Sudbury Public Library, on the condition that these materials or funds are acceptable to the Sudbury Public Library, and, secondly, that they are considered by the Sudbury Public Library Board and the City of Sudbury to be in addition to and in no way in diminution of the regular budgeted funds provided by the City of Sudbury and the Province of Ontario or by other means.
Winding up of The Friends
Should The Friends decide to dissolve itself, the net proceeds and net capital and other monies or materials shall be handed over to the Sudbury Public Library within one year.
