Friends of Libraries Workshop by Lorraine Doiron

Lorraine will provide an over view of what a Friends of the Library group is all about. Topics discussed will include: history of Friends groups, what do Friends groups do, how to start and sustain a Friends group, sharing resources, event planning, dealing with change. There will be lots of time for discussion and questions.

Lorraine Doiron was born and raised in British Columbia and has always loved and used libraries. Lorraine has raised three children, worked at different careers, and got old enough to retire. She found that sitting at home was not something she enjoyed so when a friend asked her to go to a library meeting she jumped at the chance. Lorraine discovered the wonderful “Friends of the Library” group in Smithers and before she could say, “I love Libraries” she was nominated Chairperson! She held that role for 4 years and just exchanged to the Treasurer position. Their group is preparing to help build a library expansion so the next two years will be exciting and busy!!
