The following are notes from the flip charts that were in use during this interactive session.

 

Fundraising Activities - Lie Moore
 

  • Book and bake sales – partnership with home ec in high school – make pies $400 sale profits

  • ATV rides and poker (partner with local bank and local restaurant) – breakfast and dinner, ATV ride followed by poker

  • Spaghetti dinner/book sale

  • Silent auction

  • 125th anniversary – old photos/oral history – sell DVD

  • Sell refurbish computers from school – sold 200 for $75

  • Santa Claus Parade – not fundraising – sell pop and hot dogs – earn $4-500

  • Lemonade stand/book sale (have kids sell drinks)

  • Snow sculpture contest – firemen judge – register in library – no fee

  • Scarecrow contest – register in library – no fee

  • Soap box derby - – register in library – no fee

  • PEP – educational talk

Publicity and Marketing -Ingrid Keuper-Dalton

  • Succession – Junior FOL

  • Outreach – friends in community

  • Special events

  • Special celebrations

  • Partnerships – donate books

  • Book plates – donate to third world countries

  • Direct mail

  • Add value to library card

 

Event Planning  – Margaret Moreau 

  • Book sales – donations in box

  • G o to schools more

  • Need a good relationship with board, library staff and friends

  • Plan and advertise

  • Recruit friends – very difficult

  • Plan for year – coordinator for each event

  • Aannual book sale or ongoing book sale

  • Celebrating 10th anniversary

  • Flyers go out wit welcome wagon

  • Website

  • Flyers at other businesses

  • Monthly activities – book sales

  • Lunch for council as well as friends potluck

  • one book sale Canada Day this year – three days $1500

  • Author series – with local authors

  • Art contest – children – literary theme

  • Library & Board execute events

  • Mystery night play with snacks $5 admission – 50 people attended

  • Book sales – staff do them

  • Book sales – passι

  • Teach Indian cooking – staff member

  • “Art Matters” – artists put art in library and stores

  • Patrons given a passport – could win a prize

  • Pembroke –  deal with local businesses “your library card is worth more” – show library card in store and get a 10% discount
